RFI: Proposed Funding Priorities for Neuroscience Research, Input on High Impact and Cross-Cutting Opportunities
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Blueprint for Neuroscience Research is seeking input from the scientific community on how the Blueprint might best accelerate discovery in neuroscience research. Specifically, the request for information (RFI), Proposed Funding Priorities for Neuroscience Research, Input on High Impact and Cross-Cutting Opportunities (NOT-NS-15-020), is seeking suggestions regarding how future Blueprint investments can have a broad impact on neuroscience and serve the interests of the 15 participating NIH Institutes, Centers, and Offices that support research on the nervous system. Created in 2004, the Blueprint has supported the development of new resources, tools and opportunities for neuroscientists. It supports a number of training programs designed to help students pursue interdisciplinary areas of neuroscience, including bringing students from underrepresented groups into the neurosciences. In addition, the Blueprint has also supported efforts to develop new approaches to teaching neuroscience through K-12 instruction, museum exhibits, and web-based platforms. The Blueprint was one of the inaugural sponsors of the Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) Initiative. It is interested in ideas that are broadly relevant across multiple diseases and disorders. Accordingly, comments could include but are not limited to:
- Major opportunities for advancing neuroscience research that are not well addressed by current research programs;
- Major impediments to advancing neuroscience research that are not addressed by current research programs; and
- Ideas for research programs that would address these opportunities or impediments.
Responses to the RFI will be accepted through May 25, 2015.
