The conference is comprised of panels\, roundtables\, workshops\, symposia and poster presentations and is designed to encourage substantive interaction among participants. \n\n\n\nFifty States\, Fifty Systems: State Policy Variations and Impacts \n\n\n\nNovember 5 – 7  |  Marriott Copley Place  |  Boston\, Mass.\n\n\n\nThe US federalist system of government assigns substantial authority to states to create and implement policies. At this time\, as the federal government’s role is shrinking\, the role of state policy is even more important. Ideally\, states make laws based on the unique needs and conditions of their state; however\, throughout history and continuing today\, state policies vary considerably in their reach and generosity\, and not always in ways consistent with the economic\, environmental\, or social needs of states\, but rather in the ideology of state leaders. Measuring state-level variation and its impact on well-being is more important now than ever\, and policy scholars bear responsibility for it.

SUMMARY:NCA's 112th Annual Convention
DESCRIPTION:The 112th Annual Convention in New Orleans will explore move/ment(s) in the field of Communication. Movement is the defining feature of humans in the 21st century. We are a species on the move – as migrants\, tourists\, refugees\, workers\, asylees\, and students. Movement brings flux\, assumes risk\, implies intermixing\, and sows the seeds for “both/and” thinking. Move/ment is full of interpretive possibilities for scholars\, teachers\, and practitioners of Communication. \n\n\n\nAs we gather in New Orleans\, which is marked by epochal movements of people\, capital\, goods\, ideas\, and culture\, we will reflect on the various avatars of movement. Movement is also inherent to the celebratory fervor of Second Lining\, the quintessential New Orleans form of communal celebration. The sobering legacies of Hurricane Katrina and the mass displacement in its wake also offer a reckoning for how we move and can be moved away/for/into places and spaces.

DESCRIPTION:Atlanta\, Georgia\, USA \n\n\n\nThe Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD) is an international\, multidisciplinary\, nonprofit professional association whose primary goal is to promote the understanding of child development through research and dissemination. Members conduct theoretical studies\, basic and applied research\, and policy analyses to understand and enhance child development. \n\n\n\nSince the first meeting held in 1934\, SRCD has hosted a biennial meeting on odd-numbered years for its members and the developmental science community. Through its biennial meetings\, which draw attendees from countries throughout the world\, SRCD strives to meet the goal of understanding child development through research while serving as a network and forum for its members and attendees\, as stated in SRCD’s strategic goals. Members and attendees include professionals and graduate students in psychology\, human development\, family studies\, education\, public policy\, sociology\, social work\, psychiatry\, pediatrics\, and public health. Attendance at the biennial meetings averages 6\,500.
